Christmas is just around the corner and it’s a time when fitness regimes can go out of the window and we can succumb to excessive eating and drinking, often only to regret it in January.
So, with that in mind, there are a few simple things to remember and do while still not forgoing the enjoyment of the festive period.
Whenever I do a supermarket shop I always try to have eaten beforehand, to prevent me buying a load of snacks when there. When I am full I make different purchasing decisions. The same can be applied to trips out over Christmas – eat before you go out and then you won’t be as tempted when out. Ensure you eat regularly too, which will also remove the temptation to snack.
Tis the season to be jolly, obviously, but try to drink with moderation as this will help keep your calorie intake down.
Don’t forget to be active. Yes, the festive season can be a bit static, but get outside for a walk, go to the gym if you can, or perhaps enjoy an early morning jog to blow away the cobwebs. If there are children around, get outdoors and do some fun activities. If there is snow, build a snowman, go sledging or have a snowball fight.
If you usually exercise a lot then be kind to yourself and allow yourself to have some time off to enjoy the festivities. Perhaps eat smaller portions, and ensure you drink plenty of water – this can help satisfy your appetite, keep you hydrated and also help prevent a possible hangover.
Most of all though, make sure you enjoy the Christmas period. It’s a time to relax a bit and enjoy time with family and friends.
