Keep fit this Christmas

Keep fit this Christmas

It’s that time of year when everything gets a little chaotic; there are Christmas parties to go to, presents to buy, the house to prepare, people to see, places to go, and sticking to a fitness routine can go out of the window.

As personal trainers we see it every year. Fitness and well-being can take a back-seat at Christmas, the weight can creep on and general fitness levels suffer. That’s why we get so many sign-ups come January, with people eager to start a fitness campaign in the New Year.

This can be avoided, however, by taking a few easy steps now. It will mean you will be in a much better place with your health and fitness come the start of 2022.

Keep active

Make sure you keep active over the festive period. This may mean keeping up with your training schedule, going for walks or runs, or taking part in a sporting activity. Perhaps if time is short, cut down the time you spend exercising, but don’t stop. It’s important to keep muscle strength and fitness.

Exercise with a friend

Christmas is a social time, so combine fitness and socialising by training with a friend or family member. You will find it gives a little extra motivation and is also a good way to spend time with someone in the run-up to Christmas and make training fun.

Eat and drink in moderation

Of course you will want to enjoy all the fun of the festive period, which includes eating and drinking, but try and moderate where you can. You will feel all the better for watching what you eat and drink come January.

Make an exercise plan

To keep your fitness on track it can help to have a plan in place over the festive period, with time out for exercise and relaxation.

Days can easily pass by, so it’s important to make sure you make time for looking after yourself.

Have fun!

It’s been a strange couple of years and we all need to relax and enjoy ourselves, so let go a little. Don’t stress if you can’t manage to do all the training you want over Christmas. Just do what you can and make sure you switch off and enjoy the festive period.
