One of the biggest mistakes when it comes to exercise and fitness is setting yourself unrealistic goals that you will just not meet; you will be left deflated and feeling as though you have failed.
It’s a common theme we see as personal trainers; individuals who set themselves targets that are not realistic with work, family and life commitments to fit in too.
It is always good to have a goal and something to aim for, but not when it’s just too much. While exercise should sometimes stretch you, it should not become a burden or a step too far. All you will end up doing is feeling disappointed, frustrated, perhaps causing yourself injury from doing too much and not enjoy it. Exercise, when done right, is fulfilling, enjoyable, and fun!
So, how about setting some realistic exercise and fitness goals which you can achieve? It makes the whole process so much better.
Set one goal at a time
Choose a fitness programme you can keep up and perhaps just work towards one small goal at a time. While doing this make sure you eat and sleep well and you will start to feel the difference. This will motivate you to do more.
Do the exercise that suits you
Depending on what you want to achieve from exercise, it is important to tailor it to your own specific needs. A personal trainer can help you with this.
Measure the results
Feeling, seeing and measuring the results of your exercise is important; by reaching the goals you set, one by one, you will get a huge sense of achievement; far better than the feeling of failure by setting goals not suited to you, or just too much for you at the time or to fit in with your lifestyle.
